The torogan is a significant symbol of power for the sultanate of Lanao. It serves as the royal residence and a place where Maranao traditions are freely expressed. Additionally, it functions as a forum for community concerns, a space for the development of customary laws, and a permanent residence for titled leaders. The torogan ultimately belongs to the people who built it and can be used for various community events and gatherings. Remains of torogan houses are mostly found in Dayawan, Marawi City, and around Lake Lanao in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
